There are some interesting comments under thsse headings:

1) The 40D vs the 1D MKIII

2) Image Quality and Conclusions (last three paragraphs, but particularly the second from last).

When did voluptuous become voluminous?

Well, I was going to buy a 5D successor/40D combo for weddings, but now I'm considering two 40D's and a 70-200IS instead. Thanks for the link.

Hmm...makes me wonder if I should have kept my 30D + lenses and just went for the 40D...rofl.

I still think your 5d/40d combo would work better liza :)

Well 40D is proving to be quite popular, and getting good critic. and I certainly pretty happy so far, but until I can use raws in CS3 to compare work flow's of my 30D and 40D then I will see how good the image quality is over a 30D

Heh, I already decided to go with dual 40Ds. Liza, put the 70-200 on one 40D and the 17-55 on the other and you will be very, very satisfied.

Sweet new gear for a photogenic new year!

yeah I know read that to.
What a teaser to put in a review:D
He's gotta know what he wrote and and what that would conjure up.
He's one of the 1st to review the 40D to.
Can you see the forms on the 'net buzzing with that revelation?
Thats why he likely did it.
I going to take the par of it only as "possible equal end photo quality potential".

"...I find that the IQ of the 40D is on a par if not even slightly better than that of the Canon 5D, which up until now has been my benchmark for DSLR image quality both at low and at high ISO. "

Wow. I can't wait to see other opinions on this comparison or the upcoming reviews. I chuckle at the various other threads here where people are commenting on the few 40D images that users have posted. Many say how the image quality is no better than the 20D/30D and noise is worse than the Rebel etc. Firstly, most of these images are snapshots of the camera box and the images are not 100% crops or they're compressed and of dubious comparative quality. I guess I'll wait until some experts get a lot of hands-on time with the 40D before I make rash judgments about the 40D's IQ.

Well I knew his comments would raise a few eyebrows - they sure raised mine.

Until now I have been considering a 5D or another 30D - prudence suggests we wait for some controlled IQ tests, not a few "snaps" from users.
