Hello. I've made up my mind and will be getting into Canon's system. I've sold all my Nikon gears a few months ago, coming from Nikon D80 and D200. I like to shoot mostly landscape (dawn and dusk hours). As of now, I've already preordered the 40D from Amazon. Then I saw a local ad that is selling the 5D, "purchased Feb 2007. In excellent condition, low frames (about 8,000)" with an asking price of $2100. I'm asking for advice for those who owns the 5D if this is something I should get and cancel my order for the 40D. Also, is the price for this used 5D is reasonable? I know this was the price of a new 5D when the rebate was offered. I'm starting from scratch and I'm planning to get the 17-40mm and the EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM. Greatly appreciate any inputs. Thanks.

You can get a brand new 5D for $2500 at B&H.

I have two 5Ds and really like them. A FF sensor was very important to me. I shot allot of wide angle stuff though so it really fits my photography well. If you don't need the great high ISO IQ and FF then maybe the 40D might be the camera.

At $2100, it would really need to be in perfect condition (no scratches). The going rate for a refurb with a 3-month Canon warranty is $2150. Itis my understanding that the majority of refurbs look like new. To my knowledge, you can't transfer Canon's new warranties, so buying a used one will likely carry zero warranty (unless they specify otherwise). As long as you are comfortable with that, $2100 is cheaper than $2150. :-P

LNIB 5D with about 8000 shots at $2100?
I would say that's an OK price...probably around average.

On whether to get a new on for another $400-$500 or not...just make sure you have glass...

Here in the UK second hand 5D prices are high because they are sought after and more and more wedding and studio pros are getting them. Body only new £1500 vs around £1250 second hand. Unlike a lens a digital SLR is a very complex electronic device like a television. We never buy second-hand televisions do we? In my opinion it is worth buying new because the 12 months warranty is well worth the £250 difference and gives peace of mind.

if you're sure you want FF then buy new for the extra peace of mind:D

If you don't need FF then get the 40D;)
