Here is my first time doing some air to air shots. I don't think they turned out to bad and the client is very very happy with them. I took about 300 shots and there were only 10 or so that were not in focus which made my happy.

I read as many comments as I could from the other good shooters here, and it seemed to pay off.

Most were shot with my 100-400 at 5.6 for the sweet spot. I tried to get prop blur and those were the 10 that did not come out. The client was very happy with the prop frozen, go figure. But they are his pics.

Tell me what you think along with any advice.
Thanks

I use TV mode at from 1/3xx to 1/4xx to blur props, might vary it a bit if the prop is faster or slower (helicopters spin at a different rate I think) or lens is shorter. Not sure what the actual frame speed is, but it's something like 1/320th and the next one faster. With TV priority set it's only a matter of shooting what you want, anything you like out of your group of shots will have the right blur.

He was at 500ft and we were at 1000ft. It is a crazy angle and he is 80 years old. He was drifting a bit and when he was at our 2 O'clock we told him to break right. What do you think he did? He broke left:rolleyes:. We finally got him going in the right direction.

Always an adventure.

You've got a decent blur in that one @ 1/200, but as you move around to the side like in #2, you have to go much slower because of the angle. The slower the shutter speed, the more I shotgun a lot of pics to get one "lucky" one? I try to make my own luck, & do I need to say again that I only shoot RAW 'cause it's my lucky charm? ;)

Thanks photosguy.

It was difficult to shoot because I was on the right side. I am usually on the left. I did not have a lot of room and when I would backup so the wind would not smack my lens I ended up pushing on the pilot. I figured get the shot that is in focus and work down from there.

Sometimes people just do not want to listen. In our preflight meeting I told him what I wanted to do and how. The whole time he was always had one foot pointed toward the door ready to hop in his plane.

He said he wanted to go up again for the fun of it. His fun, my pay.
