I just read the manual and have a question that I'm hoping one of you lucky guys could answer

In AV mode Auto ISO, "The ISO speed will be set automatically within ISO 400-800 so that a shutter speed preventing camera shake will be set. If overexposure would result at ISO 400, a lower ISO speed, as low as ISO 100, will be set."

At what shutter speed does the brain in the camera decide is un-hand-holdable and it starts to raise the ISO? Does the minimum shutter speed coincide with the current focal length? For instance, a 28mm lens doesn't start to shift till below 1/50th and a 200mm lens doesn't shift till time drops below 1/300th? I really wish this was expandable to ISO 1600. Canon needs to fix this with a firmware update.

I hope there's a way to disable this function, reason being how does it know if you have a IS lens on and what if one wants to get creative.?

I did the same thing James... they will be in stores here in less then 20 days so i will just wait the crazy times out and make sure I do not have a rush camera!

James you get my message about that local 500 f4?

I did and I e-mailed the gentleman as well. Although won't do me any good I don't have that kinda cash lying around.

Is there a way to disable this function? I'd prefer to choose ISO myself.

Understand that but I have not had the chance to open my 40D box nor read the manual so I am unaware of what I can or cannot turn on/off :)

I ordered yesterday from Wolf Camera (I think they are same as Ritz). Website says shipping now. When I checked my order status a few minutes ago, it said back-ordered . I called Wolf, and was told it will ship on 9/13.

So much for my trip to the zoo this weekend.

Rechecked my order status early this evening, and it now states that it was shipped FedEx overnight!! I take back everything bad I said about Wolf Camera .

I called around all day and couldn't find a single one. So we went to happy hour and I decided to pop in BestBuy and scored my 40D with the lens. $1499.00 + tax = $1621.48but I got a free 1 Gig compactflash and 12 months no interest financing. So not so bad now I just need to get my 20D up for sale quick before those prices hit the floor. Originally was thinking of keeping it but the new one is so nice don't think I will be grabbing for the old one much.
