I called around all day and couldn't find a single one. So we went to happy hour and I decided to pop in BestBuy and scored my 40D with the lens. $1499.00 + tax = $1621.48but I got a free 1 Gig compactflash and 12 months no interest financing. So not so bad now I just need to get my 20D up for sale quick before those prices hit the floor. Originally was thinking of keeping it but the new one is so nice don't think I will be grabbing for the old one much.

It's always nice to have a second body :).

How'd you get a free CF card?

I also picked mine up tonight from Best Buy in Tampa, most of the stores have them!! I love the upgrades on the 40D, this camera is awesome. I can't wait to try the 1600 ISO shots at the rink, also. Oh, and BTW, the customer service in the Best Buy camera section was above and beyond what I could have ever expected, and far exceeded my local camera store...

The kit lens isn't that bad, the 28-135 IS lens is a heck of a deal for only $200 more for those who don't care to upgrade to "L" lenses or for those saving up for one. I don't personally plan on using it since I primarily use my 24-105L, but my brother purchased it for the $200 plus tax so I essentially paid $1299 plus tax for my 40D.. and he managed to get a $400 lens for $200.

Here's a pic of my new 40D fresh out of the box (well, after a hundred or so shots, I couldn't help myself!!) taken with my 30D with the 40D kit lens....

I just got my 40D at best buy today. I felt bad..I wanted to get it from the local camera shop but they swore they wouldn't get it in until the end of the month. I am planning on using my new 40D for my senior project :D

Hey James the Bestbuy in Murfreesboro has it... Just went and played with it tonight... I did not buy it because I really want the MK III more!

I can say it was nice! Get down there as they only have 1 left!!!!!

Hi Eric,

They only have the kit correct? i was just in there yesterday on my way to nashville and they had a display stand out but no camera on it.

I was told today that my Camera will definetly ship tomorrow so we'll see. I didn't really want to pay for a lens that I'd probably never use is the reason I'm looking for a body. I just saw a MkII with less than 10,000 clicks gor for under 2300.00 on e-bay and it looked like it was brand new. I should had jumped all over it but I held back.

It was an in store promotion they actually had it written on white cardboard stock with marker. Free 1 Gig CF with purchase of any SLR $299.00 and up.

I agree the kit lens is nice and I fall into that saving up for one category.

What is it about the human condition that we lust after the scarce? Think Cabbage Patch dolls and Tickle Me Elmo's and now 40D's. That said---a proud owner!

I can confirm (for any Sacramento, CA folks) that Pardees on Watt and El Camino had 6 more body only boxes in stock as of 10.15 this morning. $1299 plus tax. They also have kit sets, apparently with the 18-55 but I didn't get price or quantity as I wasn't after that.

Mine is now sitting happily with its green POTN neck strap. :)

Best buy must've ripped you a new hole...at least in your wallet. For the price they are asking for, you could've gotten extra batteries, a better lens and grip lol or one of those combinations.

How do you figure? They are the same price as everyone else, $1499 with the 28-135 lens.
