Lovely shots Brian, great detail. I prefer the second one. Im guessing thats the natural light one.

#2 is flash I think and I must say that your diffuser works really well.

Looks like the male fly has a dent in his eye. Strange. I, also, like the 2nd, but both are excellent.

have to agree with everyone about the second one. both are great but like the lighting better.

Brian I thought #1 was natural and #2 was flash

According to the EXIF, #2 is the flash, though I think I'd have guessed this from the extra DOF.

phew, had me worried for a mo. No contest the flash has much better detail without looking artificial - nicely diffused of course.

last time i saw this the big one was on top great shots looks like the one on top has a dent in his eye.

Pete- natural light vs flash really does depend on the subject and the lighting conditions. Think in general lower mag shots tend to be better with natural light. I just like to do comparisons every now and then if the conditions allow it.
