Some recent fly photographs. Interesting seem to have had a sudden outbreak of both dance flies and soldier flies.

Not quite sure if the second two dance flies ever mated before the fight but it is normal for the male to present the female with a dead fly for her to eat whilst mating so that the female does not eat the male. No idea why the female was upside down- when I first spotted it i thought a fly had got stuck on the sun chair by water but it hadn't.

I don't blame the female for terminating that male - they normally provide the missus with an offering of some sort but shot #4 shows he doesn't care. I like the otherwordly look of #1 but all vg.

Thanks for the comments all- much appreciated
was lucky with the dolichopid- it didn't take off with the preflash.
Haven't seen these dance flies do the proper offering bit yet.
