Lovely shots Linda.

Hmm can't decide on a favourite I'm afraid. All three are top notch in focus and composition. Well, if you twist my arm really hard, I'll go for #3. :D

Now then, as far as Id goes, we expect more as you've now taken delivery of the book... A bit more bedtime reading is on the cards methinks...

Thanks for the great comments on the pics :D now as for the book and the ID, well what a minefield, one minute you think you have got it right, then you re-check and it could be another one, its doing my head in lol. Lots of reading needed and absorption of information  lol

Thanks Alby - yes, I was looking at the plates in my new book and was definately on the right track with the ID, but couldnt make up my mind lol. I suspect you are right. Lots of reading and studying to do me think (in the winter when nothing is buzzing about lol).

Super shots, every one. I can't believe you lucked out on that superb colour refraction in the wing detail every time. Were you watching for it when you took the shots?

Thanks Mike - re the colour refraction, I think I did luck out lol, I certainly wasnt looking for it, and in fact I didnt notice it until I downloaded the shots.

A bonus when you get that colour in the wings :D

Hi there and thanks for the comment.

I had a little difficulty trying to understand what you were saying above lol (a bad typing day perhaps?). Anyway, I think I have deciphered it correctly, and your question was with regard to Canon's 60mm and 100mm lenses.

I have both lenses, 60mm, as used in the above shots, and I also have the 100mm. I am one of those strange people that prefers the 60mm to the 100mm. Dont get me wrong, I love the 100mm too, but more often than not I use the 60mm - it all depends very much on what I am going to photograph and how close I think I might get. As a rule though, the 60mm is always on the camera and it would be a conscious decision to put the 100mm on. You cant go wrong with either of them, so its personal choice really.

Not sure if thats been any help to you.

Linda

Excellent shots Linda, I prefer #2, the flower is simpler than the flowers in #3 (and thus less distracting imho), and the composition of #2 is better than #1imho. Lighting is nice in all 3 shots, very soft and even. Also, the reflections in #3 on the Hoverfly's wings don't let you see as much detail of the body of the Hoverfly.
