Yes I know.

And as far as cars are concerned, Lexus and Skoda buyers are always much happier with their cars than Porsche, Mercedes and BMW drivers.

Guess I should change to a Skoda then? Not

Best regards,
Andy

Interesting seems Nikon is running a tighter ship all around?

Damn my brand loyalty!

Kawasaki still makes the baddest bikes in the world!!

I've shot Canons since 1979 (the old Canon EF) and even back then I was under the impression that Nikon made better bodies and Canon made better lenses and that Nikon was more expensive in both. Not much has changed my opinion. Flame me if you want, but the Nikon cameras are sweet solid machines with a lot of cool touches. I can see their owners being happy with them. Add to that the David vs. Goliath mentality and its easy to understand. And damn that Paul Simon for singing " . . . I got a Nikon camera, want to take your photograph . . ."

Remember that there are a lot more Canon users, hence a lot more people to whine about their gear and show their "dissatisfaction". heh heh... ;)

How can you weight the value of "picture quality" at under 40% fof your weighting for a DSLR? Isn't that the whole point of photography? On the mechanical side, at least?

Oh yes, Canon's Optical supremacy over Nikon and any other brand is almost Carl Seizz Legendary.
Nokin always made the best cameras (Built in features and such), but back in 80s and 90s, Canon was the Cat's Meow for optics.

Canon made a Camera called the EF. It was the predecessor to the AE-1. Still have it!

Irish1, I used to love my EF. It sure was built like a tank. I had it from 1975 until 2002. It went everywhere with me and sure took it's knocks, but not once did it let me down. Today's cameras, even the 1-series, sure are not made like those old tanks.

I've watched and read the reviews on CNET for a long time. It seems as though they get paid money on the side to write about a particular brand, whether it be a printer, a computer, or in this case, a camera.

I take most of what CNET says with a tiny grain of salt. Especially these days.

Step back please... I'm armed with a camera...

My view on customer satisfaction surveys, worth what you've paid for it:

It doesn't matter whether it's a car, a camera or a Fijian resort, anyone who's paid more for something will have a higher expectation of it.

So someone who bought a Lexus will be less tolerant of a tiny squeak in their car than Joe down the road who bought the same car but badged as a Camry.

If you pay $500 a night for a hotel, are you going to be pissed off if the staff forget to empty the bin one night? Of course you are! But if you'd paid $100 for the same room your care factor will be lower and you'll be less likely to complain.

Same with cameras. Canon is more expensive (generally) that Nikon. So if something (minor and not related to function) goes wrong with your brand new Nikon, you will be more likely to just write it off as the price you pay for the lower price you paid. BUT if the same thing happened to your more expensive Canon, a complaint to the company may be more justified.

Please don't think I'm saying that people who spend more are more discerning. I mean that the same person who spends more or less money in the same situation will react differently.

Cheers.

Ruth.

Take that same survey and poll people who have onwed a DSLR for more than a year or who have owned more than one make.

The numbers will be completely different.

I bet if you asked people who have shot with a DSLR for more than 3 years the numbers would be WAY different.
