Neil is right, I can guarantee you that Canon UK will NOT under any circumstances honour warranties on bodies bought abroad. Lenses are not a problem as they have Worldwide Warranty, but bodies are different. Personally I would only buy a body from a UK supplier, it's just not worth the hassle for the sake of saving a few quid (IMHO).

Get a Mack warranty, and you can get it repaired in the UK by Canon repairers - e.g. Fixation - so no advantage in sourcing it from the UK :).

is RGB tech reputable??? i'm trying to decide whether to get a 1d from them or digital rev (altho the latter has it in stock it seems)

I bought a 24-105L f/4 from RGB Tech earlier this year and had to return it for replacement as it wasn't focussing properly. They were great over the phone, replaced the lens as quickly as they could get new stock and I got a really good price because it was split from a 5D package, which was clearly explained to me at the time - you don't get the "branded" boxes this way.

It might be worth checking the 40D they are selling isn't split from a kit if the box is important to you.

I haven't bought from Digital rev, so can't comment on them.

I have to admit that I don't know much about Mack warranties but personally I wouldn't want to be messing around with a 3rd party in the event of a warranty issue. The amount you can save seems so insignificant on bodies (about 10%?) that I wouldn't want to risk the potential hassle. I do use Fixation though for lens and body work, great company.

Fair enough - though with onestop-digital quoting £720 for the 40D inc p&p, it's a fair saving on UK prices. . .

Versus £779 delivered from RGB. For the price of a meal out with the wife I'd take the UK body, but don't tell her that! ;-)a

But each to their own. There's nothing wrong with buying kit abroad I just think it's important that people understand Canon's differing policies on lenses and bodies because some suppliers don't make the position clear to the unwary purchaser. You're obviously fully clued up on the situation and made an informed decision on the best purchase for you.

^ Agreed and well said.

Off topic, where did your avatar picture come from by the way? I'm off to Canada next week and have booked an orca tour to look for these beautiful creatures.

Lucky you! I took that shot off Vancouver Island from a "Prince of Whales" boat. Enjoy your trip!

Are RGB in the UK? I've not heard of them, and assumed that they were an HK supplier - website link? Agreed, for the sake of £60, the UK option is definitely the better option!

One Stop have pricematched some people at £698, they are very trustworthy and reliable, sorely tempted to use them for a 40d myself but might try to pick one up at the duty free next month instead. Will still be more expensive, but will be 100% UK Warrantied

woohoo - thanks Nick. Not sure how I've missed them up to now - with prices like that, I'd have thought I'd have seen their name mentioned before!

if you mean duty free in the airport, you maybe dissapointed, I was in Gatwick the other day, going abroad, CF cards sandisk were about 30% DEARER than uk street prices, they had no bodies over 400D, I was hoping I was going to get a MK 3 for a silly cheap duty free price, I was wrong, In fact for all the things I did look at in the Consumer market (not Booze etc.) it was generally more expensive

Makes you wonder if not grey imports, hence they will supply there warranty and send it back to where ever it comes from and you wait for eternity?????

Maybe worth Checking?
