That last once could be very cool, but it's too dark. Keep working at it! you're doing well so far!

QUOTED IMAGE

Is this from a single exposure RAW? A 3 exposure HDR would have helped this one to prevent the blow-out in the sky. I've noticed it with some of my HDR sunsets as well. While the RAW files do have a lot of info in there, they still can't handle images with shadow and sun in a single exposure. As a result the single RAW HDRs tend to look great for the most part but give a bit of an artifact (blow-out) in the areas of the sky/clouds where the sun is. Nice pic though.

No, not from a single exposure, it was from a 5 shot bracket. I might of blown it out during PP after merging the files. Or that could just be the sun behind the clouds and the clouds are amplifying the suns light. I don't really do a single exposure shot and make my additional files from that, I usually take 3,5 or 7 shots. and merge in photomatix, then tweak in PC5 using a natural and a grunge version of the shot in layers overlaying them and playing with the blend modes.

One thing I've learned to do in vehicle HDR images is put the results from photomatix (or whatever HDR software you're using) into photoshop, put a properly exposed layer under it, and then mask off stuff that doesnt look right in the HDR layer. This helps things like tires and other black bits to look a little less gray, and helps the overall image, I think.

I layer and mask just about every HDR photo that I make. There is always something that doesn't look quite right. It's very easy to fix, usually.
