One thing I've learned to do in vehicle HDR images is put the results from photomatix (or whatever HDR software you're using) into photoshop, put a properly exposed layer under it, and then mask off stuff that doesnt look right in the HDR layer. This helps things like tires and other black bits to look a little less gray, and helps the overall image, I think.
