Canon Powershot S10/S20 error :(

I have a Canon Powershot S20 and it has an E14 error. What does that mean and how can i fix it?

Please please please help, I am on the verge of crying.

The camera is reporting that something is wrong. The number 14 will designate an area of operation that the camera is having fault with.

Removing the batteries may help.

The number is used by technicians to locate the trouble. It's not very user friendly...

Did something happen to the camera lately (got wet/damp, dropped, heated, went to the beach...) that might be the reason for the failure.
