I was looking at this bag at B&H and was wondering if it's worth it because I haven't been able to get my hands on a Think Tank, which is what I wanted originally. They are just not available here in VA, anywhere.

I need a case that rolls to fit exactly the laptop, 5D, 20D, 24-70, 70-200 2.8 IS, 85 1.8, 2 flashes and a tripod. If anyone has this bag and knows I can fit it all in, I'll order it ASAP.

Thanks, in advance for any options.

Hi Suzy, sorry to hear about your problems with ThinkTank unavailability. Have you tried Penn Camera? That's where I got mine last January.

I see the dimensions are sort of in the ballpark of the thinktank, but this is more square. The ThinkTank is more rectangular. I'm not at all familiar with the brand - 'course, that doesn't really mean anything ;). But I don't believe they're one of the major players in bag manufacturers.

I would call one of the owners of ThinkTank - I believe they are in California - and explain to them your situation. That's what I did. I'm not sure if it helped out but they were very nice and interested in my situation.

Well the problem is the tripod -

leaving that out - strap it onto the outside with a bunge cord I would look that the rolling hard cases.

I personally use the SKB line of cases - there is an airline friendly case with wheels and handle - I personally use the ones with the padded inserts. the airline friendly one will hold that gear.

this case has great roller blade wheels rather than the small hard plastic of some other manufacturer.

you can get it empty, foam, padded dividers

I use this and other SKB cases

having just reread your original post - I generally don't travel with my laptop inside the case. I perfer not to pack things too tight - IMO you can probally get the laptop in the case with your other gear maybe even your tripod depending upon it's length.

Just a note about flying with the case once packed it's probally too heavy for carry on if they check so use something like think tank's airport ultralight inside. use the case to get to the airport and check the empty case. carry the backpack onto the plane - once you get to your destination pick up the case at the luggege claim and put the backpack into the case and wheel away.

If you not using it for flying than no worries. -

Suzy, if you want Thinktank, why not order directly from them? They are wonderful to deal with. I met the owner at PhotoPlusExpo last year. They are one of the few bag suppliers who sell directly on the floor of the show.

Suzy,

Give this one a look - Tamrac 5263.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com …ro_Express_Briefcase.html (external link)

I have one, and I put 2 bodies with lenses mounted plus room for extra lenses. It has a compartment meant for a laptop, plus extra pockets and such.

The tripod might be the sticking point, but you may be able to strap it on the outside. I recommend it highly.

Have Fun,

Rick

Thanks, everyone. I am going to bed now, but I am going to look at all your suggestions tomorrow. The tripod is an issue for me. My tripod does not fit in a luggage well, and I don't want it broken like the last one I tried to check in (3 pieces). I was considering putting the laptop in a separate bag, but I really need everything in the roller. I have a lot to think about before ordering. You all are so great! :)

Oh, P.S. - I got mine at Penn Camera, so I think they stock it.

Have Fun,

Do airlines allow you to take a tripod in a case, even if it's longer than carry on luggage?

Pelican has made a lot of fine cases over the years; durable, reliable, well made. My first preference is still the ThinkTank, but if those aren't available.....

I just ordered the Airport International at the ThinkTank website. I talked to their customer service and the bag meets my needs completely, and is not too big or too small. Only bad thing is there is no place for a tripod, but my tripod is too big to put in it anyway. I doubt I will ever fly with it. I have a bag I carry the tripod in, in problems.

Thanks for everyone's responses. ThinkTank sold out of all their bags nationwide, some local vendors may have some, but they are completely out, so my bag is on order until October. They are so popular right now, the factories can keep them on the shelves.

Quite honestly , you are better off . If that's what you want , get it . Settling- you just regret later .
A tripod on a camera case says steal me , Please don't laugh when I try to put this in over head .
The tripod straps are good for umbrellas tho .
If you do have the straps and fly -- take off tripod or umbrellas and set in overhead - easier to put in and take out .
