Hi all,

If you remember -- a while ago, I posted a couple pics of what I thought was some sort of female flower wasp... it was a huge, about 27mm's in length. Well I wasn't able to figure out what it exactly was, some thought it was perhaps some sort of beetle -- or even a huge ant! Well today I'm 99% sure it is indeed just a BIG flower wasp, after finding what I'm pretty certain to be the big bull.

Unfortunately it didn't stick around long enough for me to take really good shots, but you can defnately see the resemblance.

Here's the female once again for those that didn't see -- or cannot remember.

And here's the male. This beast is about 40mm's in length!

And just so you's can appretiate why I was so suprised to see how big these species of flower wasps are -- heres a pic of another more 'normal' species of flower wasps.

The (winged) male is about 25mm's in length

Anyway, thanks for looking! :D

Excellent shots and interesting info - well done- have to say the female has to be the most unlikely looking wasp I've seen :)
