Ok, I haven't ordered mine yet but thinking about what I need to order, I was like CRAP!!! 1200+ about 1500+ on accessories.

Considering I don't have one yet: I am thinking that I would be getting the following:

1. 4gb CF Card
2. Grip
3. Extra 3 batteries.
4. Another charger.
5. Thinktank neck strap
6. Some type of hand strap (don't know what is out there)

Now the question is...am I missing anything else.

I have lenses in mind as well but dang that will have to wait. First dress up my camera. lol.

Well I don't have one but am hoping to get one later this year. When I do I will definitely be getting the following:

2. Grip
3. Extra 3 batteries.
4. Another charger.

I might also pick up a few more CF cards, but I have 7GB now so that will likely be OK to start.

just got mines last night .. on to buy list:

- extra batteries .. are there ebay batteries available yet?

already have a good amount of CF cards (8gb, 4gb, 2gb, 1gb) and a different neck strap so im good there. as for the grip, ill probably hold off on that for awhile as the 40D is already big as is so I'll see how that goes first before getting a grip :D

The batteries are the same as the 20D and 30D (and I think 300D and 10D) so yes they are available.

Really? So 20D and 30D batteries won't work in the new 40D? That's annoying since they're cheap as chips now!

If I were kitting up again I'd make sure you have 2 CF cards - just in case one gives up on you!

Strange the battery that came with my 40d is the same size as the one for my 20d?

As I upgraded from a 30D I did not need anything else, though as a 10 mp I may invest in an 8 gig CF. I used my grip that was on 30D, sis not see point in upgrading that, I am left handed

The 40D battery is the same. The post was referring to the XTi battery vs. the 40D. All the xxD batts are the same don't worry.

I'm gonna be lucky to swing the camera so..... i guess my 17-55 and 1 gb cf are just gonna have to migrate to the 40d for the time being, I'll slap an old 256k and the 17-85 on the 20d till i can swing another CF and hopefully a 70-200, then I'll flip a coin to see which camera gets which lense.
