All I picked up was a 2GB Extreme III CF and a reader - both for about $53 on Amazon. They arrived before the camera did!

I was thinking about getting a camera backpack... right now, I still how an old beat up Tamrac bag.

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

well when I got mine, I did a trade. I traded in the 10D, Battery grip, 1CF card and 2 battery's. This got the 40D down in price. :) which suited me. Since I already had 4 extra battery's then I didn't need to worry about getting any more and I am currently using a 2gb card. Which unless I am shooting sports I don't need to worry about space any time soon.

So all I got was a 40D :) which I am happy with.

Gary Fong "Puffer". I kinda like having a built in flash on one of my cameras and the puffer works extremely well. Even avoids "lens hood shadow" in flash pics. Also, the batterry pack ( the old BG-E2 works just fine) is a must as the camera feels a little like a pistol with too short a hand grip without it. So far, I am loving the new camera.

I picked up an extra battery for mine. I can't imagine needing 3 extras as some of you are stating.

I want a BG-E2n as I like to shoot in portrait - and of course, some top-grade lenses. And a 580EX II flash. But they will have to wait a little bit as the funds as limited.

Got mine last Saturday, (after ordering it Friday afternoon - maximum respect to RitzCamera.com). As this is my first foray into the world of DSLR I had to go shopping for some extra stuff as soon as it arrived - before even breaking the seal on the box.

I visited 3 different Ritz Camera stores, (each of which thought I was mistaken or lying about having a 40d as they weren't expecting stock for a few weeks), and bought the following.

I bought the kit with the 28-135 so bought a UV and Polarizing filter for this, (was shocked to pay 80 bucks each for these tbh).

Nifty Fifty, (thanks to major reading of this forum the night after ordering as I waited in anticipation for the camera to arrive and spent more money in my head).

UV Filter for the 50.

Tamrac Velocity 8x Pro Sling Pack - Loving how quick it is to get the camera out and be ready to shoot, and how easy it is to put it back rather than leave it around my neck continuously.

1 Canon BP511a Spare battery which I haven't needed to use yet - got 850 shots off on day 1 and still had power.

Went to BestBuy and bought 2 x 4Gb ExtremeIII's - Will add another at some stage.

Looking to add more glass at some stage but not sure what or when yet.

I see this becoming addictive!

I'm curious why so many people want an extra charger? Is that mostly for back-up purposes? Do they fail that often?

In2Photos wrote in post #3873056 (external link)
Well I don't have one but am hoping to get one later this year. When I do I will definitely be getting the following:

2. Grip
3. Extra 3 batteries.
4. Another charger.

I might also pick up a few more CF cards, but I have 7GB now so that will likely be OK to start.
