my thoughts exactly. $180 is wayyy to much. Now if it was more of a universal type where I could charge my nb2l's and bp511's then i'de think about it.

I got my Canon 40D yesterday. This is what I added:

4 Gig card. It will hold 800 + pictures
Extra Battery. Yes it does take the same battery as the 20D and 30D
UV Filter. I never leave home without one.

What do I want to add?

Battery grip - As soon as I can find one. Does anyone know if Canon has produced this item yet.

Does one need a UV filter for digital? I figured you'd need something more like an infrared filter... No?

You sure this will work for the 40D batteries?

When I did the search on Amazon I put in the model number of the charger and that popped up. One indication that it should work is that they bundle that charger with a BP511. The technical details in the description says it will charge 2 BP511 batteries:

Product Features

  • Can charge two BP-511 battery packs simultaneously at a rate of 90 minutes each

It has been in my shopping list on Amazon for a while but I haven't pulled the trigger just yet. But to answer your question, Im not totally sure it will.

i want to get some extra batteries for my 40D. does anyone know if the eBay 2000mAh BP-511 is safe to use? they are really cheap on ebay, and it should offer much longer operation time than the OEM battery...

It's the charger that was furnished with the D60, so I have one. It doesn't charge two batteries simultaneously;it charges them sequentially. A second reason for having multiple chargers is that they do fail. I had one die while I was 4000 miles from home; fortunately I was able to find a store to sell me a new one before the last of my batteries died!

I am getting the 40d later this week. I bought two 4gb cards in preparation. Can't afford much else since I just got the 17-55. Will the grip from my 20d fit the 40d?
