I am a bit puzzled by the number of people saying that they are going to buy an extra charger. Why?

And by the way, the word everyone should be using is complement, not compliment.

I finally bought another bag, smaller for packing lighter equipment when I don't need all the stuff. This one will take a body with the 70-200 on, a flash and a couple of lenses and can be worn as a backpack. Will be perfect to bring the stuff when I shoot ice hockey.
I'm funny, can buy a new body or a lens in a blink but put off the realtively cheap but important things too long, should have gotten this one two years ago.

Second charger or dual battery chargers due to the fact that when you have the grip, it houses two batteries at the same time. With that, you would need an additional two batteries as backup.

Best practice is to charge two, while two are in the grip. Hence, when people say, they need to order 3 more batteries and 1 more charger.

You do the math.

You can get away with 1 charger but that means more time managing the charging of your batteries when 2 chargers can be done at he same time.

There are dual battery chargers out there as well but from what I have heard, they charge individually at a time. Both batteries in the charger but it charges one at a time. I inquired about this for this seems to be a neat thing but then if you think about it, what if it breaks on you. You're screwed! At least if one breaks on me, I have another for backup.

To compliment my 40D, I "purchased" my friends to model for me to test it out.

Ok. Ok. Bribe. Purchase, bribe, what's the difference? ;3 They'll do anything for some soda and a free meal!

Well, my 40d is on the way... I already have the grip, batteries, memory cards from my 20d, so the next purchase will be a lens, possibly a Sigma 100-300mm.

I went "the whole hog" and got a 70-200 L 2.8 IS. Why not?

An awesome combination!

Check all the usual places. B&H, Adorama, Beach, etc.

The charger, just like the batteries, is not the same as the XTi. Only the 10D, 20D, 30D, and 300D are the same as the 40D.

My 5D uses the same batteries and charger as well

You can use the same battery from 20 D and even 60 D. BTW the Coupler 400 that came with the 60 D, its compatible with 40 D I checked with Canon yesterday. In case you are not familiar the Couple looks like a regular battery for the 40D except at the other you can connect to AC and can run it for many use including LiveView

So far I've only bought a Feisol 3442 tripod, Markins M10 ballhead, and Sandisk 8 GB Extreme III. I have a Lowepro Nova 3 ordered. I'm waiting til 10/15 to order some lens and other accessories.

I have also ordered a Manfrotto 680B with 486RC2 ballhead. ThinkTank Speed Racer, Lenschanger 75 Popdown and Lenschanger 50, Digital Holster 50, Shoulder Harness. All for the love of the 40D.

I still need a tripod!
