I didn't buy all of this all at once, but within the first month of buying the 40D. I came from a DSLR world of SD cards, so I had to buy CF cards and a USB reader. I also am a Cokin Filter System guy, so I had to buy adapter rings for the new lenses. Of course, with the bigger body and more accessories, I outgrew my current laptop/camera backpack, so I had to get a new one.

  • EOS-40D Body
  • Canon 28-135mm F3.5-5.6 EF IS USM
  • . . . EW-78B II hood
  • Canon 70-300mm F4-5.6 EF IS USM
  • . . . ET-65B hood
  • 2nd Battery (BP-511A)
  • Two 4Gb Compact Flash cards (Dane-Elec)
  • CF card reader (multi-reader: CF/SD/MiniSD/MMC)
  • Cokin (external link) filter adapter (58mm)
  • Cokin (external link) filter adapter (72mm)
  • Tamrac Adventure 9 (external link) (laptop/camera backpack--Black/Gray)

p.s. Anyone want to buy a slightly used Lowepro CompuDaypack (external link) (black/gray), in almost new condition?

.

-Canon EOS 40-D with vertical/battery grip, wireless remote shutter release
-Canon 10-22mm F3.5 USM (with hood)
-Canon 70-300mm F4 EF IS USM (with hood)
-Canon 28-135mm F3.5 EF IS USM (with hood)...and many more items.
-Check out my photography here (external link). And here (external link), too.

Really? So 20D and 30D batteries won't work in the new 40D? That's annoying since they're cheap as chips now!

If I were kitting up again I'd make sure you have 2 CF cards - just in case one gives up on you!

I think you are wrong on this, my batteries from my 20D, both Canon and third party work just fine.

Well I got a few bits and pieces around the same time as my 40D, whether in prep for getting it or as a direct result:

4Gb CF Card (eXpansys.com - £20)
Spare Battery (Free - We have a permanently AC'd camera at work for retinal imaging, battery was in the box . . . )
Spare Charger (Free - As above . . . )
20" Apple Cinema Display (£300ish - Had to have something to do the 40D justice!!!)

I bought the following in anticipation of the 40D about three weeks before I got the body:

Canon EF-S 10-22
Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS
Canon 24-105L (sold since purchase)
Shoulder and bandolier UPStrap
8G SanDisk Extreme III CF
Hoya Pro 1 Digital CPL (Sold since purchase. Real piece of junk. Should have stuck with B+W)

Of course, I'm using all this stuff with my XTI as I am waiting on the 40D replacement (defective unit).

Wow some of you guys have gone all out... I feel bad for having bought nothing but a 2gb SD card along with my 1dm2n, and nothing but a 1gb CF card for the 20D. My poor cameras :(.
