"AKA - the dust pump"

It's not him calling it a dust pump. He's just indicating that that's what it's known as. And he's right - it's widely known as being a dust pump. ;)

And equally shown here as being otherwise... ;);)

Its been a while since I posted something there mostly due to my crazy schedule. Anyway these were all taken during a recent trip to the Franklin Park Zoo here in Massachusetts. I'm in no way a professional but I think I do ok.

All taken with my 100-400

Thank you :D

It's a ground shot. Note the reflection of the ground and sky on the polished "Turkey Feathers" (tailpipe)

Here's a sample of salvaging. The resolution of the 100-400 is pretty good :)

Hey All!

Well, we had a POTN meetup in Olympia, WA last Saturday. My normal walk-around kit for that type of thing is the 5D Classic and maybe the 24-70 mounted, but I always have the 1D3 and the 100-400 (and a 1.4x TC) either in my car if it's nearby or in a backpack.

So, while we were waiting in a park at a lake for people to show up, I noticed a bunch of gulls out in the lake, so I decided to get the 1D3/100-400 from the car and see if I could get some gulls as they were flying around. Boy, I'm out of practice with BIF shooting! I left my monopod behind, so I was wildly waving 560mm of optics around, trying to chase those dang gulls. Plenty of bad shots!

I did manage to do OK on a few:

And, there were some nearby ducks:

I also decided to take some non-"normal" shots:

And, getting some nice close reach for this was fun:

All in all it was a nice day with POTN friends! Bright sun made for difficult/challenging light, but, hey...it was a beautiful day to be out and about!

Nope...

But it's a pretty good illusion, eh? ;)

So how does this lens perform with a 2X Converter on it?
Anyone have any examples?

Very Weakly...

IQ takes a pretty significant hit and on anything other than a 1-series body, it won't AF at f/11.

(Anyone know if the tape trick works with non-Canon 2X TCs?)

Ok how about the 1.4? I would hope a whole lot better?
