My 7D & 100-400L has been a great combo for me so I never even put the 100-400L on my 5DIII, until last week and it hasn’t come off. It is also a great combo, might be a little better do to less noise.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

You want less megapixels? To help with camera shake and light capturing?

I think you got it the wrong way around...

Cheers.

Actually I do not.
The more pixels you pack onto a sensor the smaller the pixels are.
This makes each pixel less able to capture the light. This is part of the reason
full frame sensors are "better".

As for camera shake, with a higher pixel density sensor a small shake
will move across more pixels resulting in a softer image than on a less
dense sensor.
Canon has a memo about it.

When you say a small shake, do you mean a movement of the subject? I am wondering, bcause if the shake is the photographer's hand then surely it is going to move across all the pixels of any size of sensor?

Sorry, I maybe missed the original gist of this...

These are small, but the ones out there are far away.

While you are not entirely wrong...go back and get a 2 MP camera and see if you can take picture in the dark....you cannot I'd say.

So your first statement "The more pixels..." is correct, the second "This makes each pixel..." is not, because Canon did not forget to increase the capabilities of that pixel. So, the overall dynamic range of the sensor has increased. This is the determining factor for being able to shoot in lower light, not the size of the pixel.

As for the camera shake....a shaking camera creates a blurry image, not a soft one.....

Cheers.

Got lucky to spot one of the most elusive cats in the wild!! In Bandipur Tiger Reserve, India... one of the few places in India where they are taking measures to prevent this magnificent animal from going extinct in India (just 1400 of them left now).
This guy, around 6 years old and about 10ft long, didn't seem to be much of a "morning person".. still yawning and turning in his bed when we reached there at around 8am. All he did was lift his face up once in the one hour that we parked there in the hope of getting that one keeper of a shot. Well, that shot never happened as the park rangers started making people leave him alone as a crowd started gathering around as news of the sighting spread.
