I LOVE this shot! Great job on capturing this moment :)

Thanks! The moment caught me by surprise, but serendipitously I happened to have my camera with the 100-400 with 1.4x sitting nearby...very handy. :)

I just bought a copy of this lens on a total impulse buy (great price from a trusted source). I had always wanted one, but have never done any real research into its quirks. How many stops can I trust the IS to help me? Anything I ought to be aware of?

2 stops of IS, it'll be enough in tricky situations.
Be aware of the dust that can enter the lens because of the push pull mechanism.
Other than that, enjoy the lens!

Be aware of the dust that can enter the lens because of the push pull mechanism. A myth...
Other than that, enjoy the lens! TRUE

I might add that it takes about 1/2 second for the IS to kick in....

Cheers.

I hope we get a 100-400mm II very soon. The new Nikon 80-400mm has a 4-stop IS (VR). That would be quite nice! :)

Thanks guys. I've been testing it out the office window and I'm impressed thus far. I'll head off in more appropriate subjects later this afternoon.
