I'm curious as to how you got this shot! Let me guess, you laid down in the grass, lathered your belly in honey, and waited, camera ready???

Practice shooting one of these little buggers in flight and BIF will become a "walk-in-the-park."

80+ attempts later and about to throw my camera at it......I win! LOL!
(Not a 100-400 lens shot)

Yeah, BIF shots are MUCH easier than BIF...wait, we'll use "I"...INF shots. That is insects in flight. My word it's hard and I wonder how people do it!!!???!!!

Heres a couple of my Fallout 3 limited edition lunchbox, I heavily edited them to feel like the theme of the game, which is post-nuclear wasteland :)

I personally like the first one...feels more nuclear wastelandish :)

And heres some completely unedited ones I did that I messed up...shooting with the bright sky behind your subject just isnt going to give you usable results I'm afraid.. :( I tried some heavy level tweaking and couldnt get them usable...[And this is with some manual override of the exposure to begin with, i just didnt do enough im afraid]

Hah! Right! You are obviously pretty amazing with tracking a dfly smoothly with a 8 lbs weight. I on the other hand, will be building character via disappointment.

I am not sure if folks regularly attempt dragon fly in flight (DAFFT ) with the 5D's AF system.

I did! :D
Shot was taken with my, now sold, classic 5D & 70-200 f/2.8 IS @ 1/5000 s.

Shouldn't underestimate what the 5D can do. That little gem suprised me many, many times. Just takes a little practice and you're there!

I was walking in a park when I noticed this dragonfly following me. No joke...lol!

So I got this bright idea to try and shoot him in flight. No honey btw! :p
After many, MANY failed attempts, I finally got this ONE shot that wasn't blurred.
I just wasn't going to give up and lose! The more I failed, the more determined I was to capture a clean shot and wasn't going anywhere until I did.
Was actually there looking for wild gators.

Oh man, I can just see you, camera to face, pointed towards the sky, spinning, ducking, and jumping around every which way, trying to capture that damn dragon fly and then whaap, you literally trip over a sunbathing gator!
Priceless!
I think it should be the next EOS commercial!

Actually, that's exactly what I did and I'm suprised no one called the authorities to have me picked up. I can only imagine what other visitors in the park thought of me, especially observing me from a distance.

I agree. Well done on the first one. I used to play Fallout 2 all of the time back when I played computer games. It's a great game. I could never find the damn garden of eden creation kit though for some reason...

Only 80? I think that's great. ;) I didn't get one good one out of 100+++ I'm about ready to stick one to a light blue matte board- no blur, great lighting angle, all body parts in frame. ;)

I've been using this lens for a few months now and I've been very pleased with it. Best pictures when there's enough light of course. BUT, when it's cloudy I crank up the ISO and pics still come out OK. When I compare them with photo's shot by other photographers on the same event, theirs are just as grey as mine and wont sell either BUT I HAVE ZOOM :D
