Anybody found the perfect bag to snugly hold just the Canon 300 f/2.8 with xxD or 1-Series body and a 1.4x TC attached? Not looking for a backpack or multi-item bag, only a well-padded bag for this lens/body/TC combo.

I'd appreciate recommendations based on first-hand experience.

Thanks.

Check out the Kinesis gear. In the long lens cases, I can carry the 1D markII, 2X TC and 300L 2.8 with the lens hood attached in shooting position! I've been quite impressed with the qulity of their bags.

Thank you. That narrowed my search fast. The Kinesis looks exactly like the shape, style, and quality I had in mind.

If anybody else has used Kinesis long-lens bags and can recommend them, I'd welcome hearing. Conversely, if those bags can't hold AF on hot, sunny days, I guess I'd want to know that, too. :)

You can check out this thread where I had a similar query:

Incidentally, I do sling the long lens case as a backpack and find the harness system a heck of a lot better than anything else I had used before.

I have the Lowepro Lens Trekker 600, and IMHO it is way too big for the 300mm if that is the only lens you want to use it for. If you also have a 400 f2.8 or a 500mm, it will serve you well. I originally got it when I didn't have a case for my 500, but now I have one, and using the Lowepro for the 300 leaves a lot of extra room inside.

Now I use the Think Tank Glass Taxi to hold the 400 f2.8, and if I put the 300 in it, it is much better.

Take a look at Tenba - they have fairly specific soft cases for 300mm as well as 400mm lenses. B&H has them on the Web site.

Hope this helps.

Have Fun,

Rick
