Thanks for the heads-up on the update. With NR on the 40D looks very similar to the 20D, but with a bit more luminance noise and less chroma noise (more noise "texture" but less noise-related color blotches).

I tend to like Bob Atkin's reviews of Canon gear (he's a Canon shooter) because he seems to have a way of evaluating stuff for its true usefulness and he understands the idea of budget and performance together.

I think the 40D is shaping up to be a really great camera. In fact, it's better than what I was expecting really. I bought a 30D right before the 40D came out to get the very low price (I also bought the XT right before the XTi came out). I don't regret that decision, but I may just buy a 40D right before the 50D comes out.

It's that or get a 5D when the 5DII is pending....but then I would have to do a lot of lens trading.

But my cameras better than your camera, and my daddy can beat up your daddy! ;)

I was suprised by the 40D. It was a bigger upgrade than I was expecting, otherwise I may not have got the 5D. But I am loving full frame, and I think the 5D is better suited to the photography I do. Both are great, and the 40D is a big step forward in features. It's all good!

It's shown here with the optional 28-135/3.5-5.6IS USM kit lens

That's a weird focal length for a kit-lens on this camera... But it looks nice though. I might buy one in a couple of years when my 20D breaks down :D

Resurrecting this thread to note that Bob Atkins has added a bit more information to his review. Worth a look if you're considering the 40D.
