...well, I really don't have any. :( At least nothing all of you haven't already heard. I just took the damn thing out of the box! However, I did find the paintless hot shoe pretty cool. It's nice and hefty like the 5D. Nice solid build. Looks and feels more... serious? Beautiful sounding shutter. Nice bright viewfinder. BIF is redesigned and "springs" into action. Let's see... Menu screen is reminiscent of my old 1D2N which is a definite plus. Nice colorful LCD display. Nice red hot pixel in the lower left of the LCD!? Nothing I'm at all worried about since it has no bearing on the images themselves. Plus, I don't want to go through the hassle of returning it and all that crap. I haven't really played around with it too much, but will put her through her paces this weekend since I'm scheduled to shoot a wedding. I'll report in greater detail later.

Yeah. Seems like such a simple, common sense thing.

OK, I'm coming from a 300D so my view is scewed some. Got to say though, with the nice and quiet yet solid shutter sound on this camera, 6.5fps is the sound of awesome.

Liveview works great, really not sure I'm going to use it much though. Menus are very well laid out, controls are easy to use, AF is very good. I'm really happy with it, but I've only had mine about 36 hours so I've not had much time to put it through its paces. I did get it a POTN strap, but forgot to get a bigger, faster memory card. Thats on order too now. :)

Congrats on the new 40D LM. I'd like to see some low light shots from that wedding.

Here's IMG_0002 (would've posted the very first shot, but it was slightly OOF and rather embarrassing)...

RAW straight out of the camera. Resized and and converted to jpeg in DPP. Good night!

24mm, f/2, 1/60, ISO 500

Agreed :) although coming from 5d the shutter sound is wierd to me. Great and all just sounds so electronic unlike the 'clack' of the 5d... but damn is it fast.. :)

Hey! I've got that same chair. Very nice, but I wish I could raise it a bit higher.

I have to admit the feature I've played most with so far is Live View. Scandalous on a DigiSLR, I know, but having the same control as through the viewfinder with the addition of digital zoom for fine tuning focus puts a smile on my face. I even ordered the EF-S 60 2.8 macro last night to give me an "excuse" to use it!

I took the camera to work yesterday to "show off" to some colleagues who also shoot Canon, and they too were impressed with LV. They agreed that the overall experience is more of an upgrade from the 30D compared with 20D -> 30D.

Enjoy the new camera!

Gordon

Lord M, I am really interested to hear your full impressions of the 40D compared with 5D! I was thinking about going the 5D route for better dynamic range, but the 40D might well be a good option!

Ugh! These first impressions are killing me. In a good way though. I am glad to hear that so many people are happy with it. I am hoping to get one myself once the dust settles and I can save up the money. :)
