After taking a few more sample shots and viewing them last night, I must say that the images do have a 5D like image quality. Quite impressive. Most of you know I'm not a big fan of pixel peeping, but would rather test out high ISO and AF performance in the real world. Should have plenty of opportunity to do both over the weekend. I'll keep you posted.

Agreed :) although coming from 5d the shutter sound is wierd to me. Great and all just sounds so electronic unlike the 'clack' of the 5d... but damn is it fast.. :)

So does it sounds more like the xt and xti?

Lord I cannot wait until the weekend!!!

I might be dead by then so get too the shooting so I can pick one of these up and warp it to my doorstep...

:)

Im waiting patiently like everyone else is so the button can be pressed, but my fingernails are another story.

Im am mainly concerned about the AF and after seeing the post of the cyclists it's the first real test I have seen so far.

I havent shot more than 2 photos with an xti - cant really remember it. Sorry.

It does sound very controlled and sharp / tight if that makes sense

less mirror slap more shutter sounding.... i swear the 5d has a notable recoil (but i like it)

My gallery - just posted some of my top shots (external link)

Ugh! These first impressions are killing me. In a good way though. I am glad to hear that so many people are happy with it. I am hoping to get one myself once the dust settles and I can save up the money. :)

I'm in the same boat. Although I have started threads about the 40D, it's all a matter of time when I put all the question threads together and experience my own first impressions.

Not at all. While I don't mind the shutter sound of the XTi, the shutter sound on the 40D is "bassier," more robust, and more authoritative. If that makes sense...

...I got my 40d on Monday...

AF performance in low light is AWESOME.. the 20d would never focus with anything but the center point in low light... the 40d does GREAT...

So.. no more focusing and recomposing in bad light :) (in this case bad = 1/30th @ iso 800 f2.8)
