Warehouse Express www.warehouseexpress.com (external link) the online photographic retailer are hosting a series of seminars across the UK starting on the 11th September in London, the first Module is a presentation by Canon UK on AF focusing and Cfn settings on the 1D Mk III, I am attending and will be asking a lot of questions of the Canon guys, and will be happy to report back, especially if I find any info on firmware 1.1.1

The seminars are free and open to anyone to attend on a first come basis. Any questions on topics other than the fact the camera can't focus, I would be happy to try and cover and report back?

Just to clarify, I don't work for Warehouse Express or any of the companies presenting at the seminar! I came across it as I was looking for a MKIII and they have a backlog of 70 customers! However Park Cameras have limited stock and so do Wilkinsons Cameras if anyone is looking in the UK. All pricing is at 2900 GBP right now.

I'd like to know the decision model for selecting a AF point when shooting in 45 AF point mode. From time to time I get (what I consider) some very strange choices, and it very seldom chooses the center focus point.

I guess this is kind of a leading question because it seems that I get fewer out of focus images (at 10 fps in AI servo, of course) when I have either ring of fire or a non-center AF point selected. Using non-center focus only, either single AF point or all of them, gets around 10% OOF (or less) while center-focus-only comes closer to Rob closer to 20-30% OOF. I would expect the opposite.

Well I think you guys have the 'Lemon Law' which we do not benefit from, imagine the cost if Canon were actually honest and said 'yep we made a mistake' just does not exisit in corportae circles right...if he is a pro lets fix the camera and keep the noise down, great service free loan etc....these guys are in business...think of Mattel....we are happy to pay the money but dont you get the impression in the need to out innovate corners are cut? I purchased the 10D when it first came out and it was well thought out refined and worked with out question. Now it is a first past the post who is the greatest Nikon v Canon, look at the timing of the press release. We as consumers will benefit but let the bloodbath settle on price and spec and then when they have driven it down purchase and enjoy
