I could not make my mind on RRS BH40 vs. Markins M10 ballheads. Bought both to try. They are here.

M10 came with the quick shoe attached. I have to remove it to replace it with RRS clamp so I can use RRS plates.

How? How do I do it? I just do not see any obvious way of removing it.

Could somebody help, please.

First let me say that you do not have to replace the clamp to use RSS plates. They are all (Markins, RSS, Kirk, Wimberley) based on the Arca Swiss design. Hence they will work with all the top end AS ball mounts, including the L brackets.

I don't have a Markins M-10, only the Emile Q3. On that ball mount to remove the clamp requires that you go through the bottom of the ball as it's bolted to the clamp from the underside. (That assumes a bolt and not that there is a stud on the top of the post.) If it is a stud, then you would have to lock the ball and simply twist off the clamp (which might require striking it to free it, or free whatever loctite material Markins may have used to keep it in place).

I'd give Markins a call or email them to get whatever procedure you might need to go through to remove and replace. Might be safest.

Thank you Stew.

M10 comes with screw nob. I like RRS lever release. I like M10 but if I cannot replace this clamp, I will just have to go with BH40.

It looks to me like clamp cannot be removed from M10. It seems to be bolted on the ballhead.

I send an e-mail to Markins. No response yet. I have hard time talking to them on the phone. I cannot understand the guy who typically answers the phone.

I thought lots of people use Markins ballhead with RRS clamps and plates, Where are guys?

JohnJ80 is the prime proponent of the RSS lever clamp here. Maybe he's on vacation.

At least you will have the opportunity to try the tension control on the BH-40. That was my only concern with this head compared to the Markins.

Simply give RRS a call during California business hours. They are very helpful over the phone. All quick release clamps are bolted/screwed onto the stem of the ball.
