I have a Sigma 24 - 70 2.8 that I bought used on this site. I was happy with it on my XTI, but I have to say, on the new 40D it is a killer combo.

Colors are better, images are more sharp, it is like night and day.

Was just wondering if people out there that have Sigma lens, that have used them on a Rebel, then on a 20D, 30D or series one body...if you have noticed this.

As some one told me in a PM when I was thinking about selling my Sigma....even the weight of the lens is so much better on the 40D.....

Nice combo.

Jon

I would expect the 40D to produce better images than the 400D but there may be something else influencing things...

Since all camera sensor alignment and lenses vary very very very slightly it could be that you got lucky with your new combo.

For example you can send a body and lens combo to Canon to have them matched. They align the sensor perfectly to the lens projected image.

Thats one of the reasons why different copies of a lens will vary in IQ (mainly sharpness).

Congrats on the gear... ;)

You compared the parameter settings on the two cameras?

Gotta be parameters. I used my 18-50 on my Xt and then on my 20D and pics seem about the same at default settings. About being key word. I don't think the difference required your type of enthusiasm. Not to put in a harsh way.

I don't know that my images are THAT much better from the 300d to the 40d. got to do a more exact test before I agree completely.

The AF system in the XXD line is better then the Rebel line, could help in producing 'better' shots, and the 40D is supposed to have the most accurate AF system of all the prosumer models. Could definatly make for an increase in sharpness

Both bodies were pretty much out of the box...not sure what you are getting at here.

It is replies like this one that makes me wonder why people bother posting to these sites at all.

The topic at hand was comparing a lens from the 400D to the 40D. Both are the current cameras. I wouldn't think comparing with a 20D would get the same results.

This was my thinking as well. A lens that would hunt on the 400D no longer hunts around. It is wham...in foucs. The results are better as well, which has to be linked to the DIGI III I presume.

My Sigma 24-70 was excellent on my 5D. I wish I'd never sold it.

Not crazy, just lucky. I bought that lens a couple of years ago and it was a piece of junk. Horribly out of focus an blurred on the left side, but fine on the right side. I quickly returned it and got the Tamron 28-75 2.8 instead. All the lens makers have quality control problems, I was just unlucky with the Sigma and Lucky with the Tamron.

Kinda off-topic, but shooting both the 30D (20d before it) and the XT. I must say the 30D's IQ : sharpness, contrast, saturation appears to be marginally ahead of it's plastic, smaller sibling. Don't get me wrong, I love the XT for the weight and size, it is just not quite up to par with my 30D.
