I just picked up another 500 GB hard drive today.

I was wondering if there is software out there that would automatically copy files from the one drive to the is new drive on a set schedule.

So I can work on the files on the one drive, and every night at 2am or something it compares the files and copies any new or changed files over to the other drive automatically.

Anybody have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

I got a BounceBack Express installed on my machine. The software was included on the Seagate External Harddrive that I have and you can set a schedule for the backup. :)

Toogy, if you are using a Mac, Super Duper is the one most people use. You can do full back ups of your Mac onto a another drive and you can also choose which files are copied.

Highly recommended :-)

I'm using Norton Ghost...although I really need to reconfigure it. But I like the way it works.

The software that comes with the drive is usually a decent bet, otherwise if your on windows XP you can use the backup utility built into the OS

My Computer > Right click C drive > Properties > Tools Tab > Backup
In the adavanced features you can schedule backup jobs to run when you like.

Ghost is the way to make an exact dupe of your drive, why buy software. Most of these higher capacity drives have backup software loaded on to them. I know the Western Digital is configurable to schedule or it is as easy as pushing the single button after you configured it correctly. Also, XP has a built-in backup program which you can use the Scheduler to set up daily backups.

Ghost is more than that, but it does that too. It's really better not to comment on something when you know nothing about it. (I've done it too...but still)

Acronis TrueImage is the best Backup out there for drive imaging.

If you just want to backup directories/folders then check out Karen's PT Replicator:

Freeware and works awesome!

Dude, WTH are you commenting on? I use Ghost 8.0 every flippin day...the OP asked for backup software on a single hard drive setup, not an disk imaging solution and why pay when you can use what is already available to him for free? Understand that he is not running an enterprise, he merely wants to backup a HDD on a scheduled basis. In any case, it is small time to be using Ghost as a backup solution for the enterprise and it is not the most effective solution on any level of computing for scheduled archiving. Galaxy, Arcserve and Veritas would be the solution I would have recommended had he had more data and more computers to backup.

Before you assume I know nothing, ask why I suggested what I suggested.

wonderful for you...you use it 4 versions old and know everything. Except how to stay up with current software, maybe?

http://www.symantec.com ….jsp?pcid=br&pvid=ghost12 (external link)

It's on version 12 (I use 10) and does a lot more than copy drives. I think it's a heck of a deal for $70...but really go try a read. I have no idea what version 8 did, but I'm talking about CURRENT software. Geez.

Anyway, I don't assume you know nothing...just not much about Ghost.

I know enough that I do this for a living, bud. Again, Ghost is small time stuff and keeping up with everything out is silly and I would love to find someone in the field who knows everything. I know enough to let you know that for what the OP asked for, the free software, again free, not $70 is sufficient. WD's backup software will also B/U using differential and incremental methods as well as the full backup. Since you seem to think you know archiving very well. Why don't you tell me the difference between Incremental and differential? huh?

Not a flame war, I was just answering your assumption. But hey, I forget very easily that's why I archive. I'll end this here. OP: Sorry for taking his bait and sidetracking this thread. JaertX, sorry that I got a bit excited, but this is my bread and butter you have transgressed.:D
