I've used MPix once and results were fine. As for a calibrator I use the SpiderPro and am very happy with it.

IMO the Eye-One Display 2 is the best on the market. I've had mixed results with the Spyder Express but, if your gonna print your work, go for the Eye One.

I have used Mpix for numerous orders over a few years. They have ranged in size up to 20"x24". Outstanding work. The one time I had a problem with about 10 11' x 14" prints that all had a faint line all running down the same spot I called customer service. They reshipped the order the same day no questions asked.

I use a CRT monitor for all of my critical post processing. I have the ViewSonic Graphic Series G90f 19" monitor. I use dual monitors, the second monitor is a cheap 17" LCD that I just scoot my menus over from Photoshop CS2. CRT graphics monitors are cheap, have a much higher dynamic range, and a very small dot pitch. Best of all, the CRT monitor I use only costs about $225.00 to $250.00.

I use the Colorvision Spyder to calibrate the CRT monitor. The Spyder works fine on a CRT but I've heard that it doesn't do to well on LCD screens. I tried to use LCD monitors but it was always hard to get them calibrated and I feel that the construction of the screen, itself, allows for a false sense of sharpness. Since I switched to the CRT and the Spyder color calibration system I have put out some of the best prints I have ever made.

I have two 19inch CRT's.

One is calibrated with a Spyder, the other just holds tool pallets, open folders etc.

If you do run dual monitors and want both to look the same then make sure you get a calibration device that is able to to calibrate both, or make sure your monitor driver can run custom profiles on both.

High end LCD's have caught up with lower spec CRT monitors, but still have some distance to go to catch up with the high end CRT's. There are LCD's that are up to the task though, the Dell Ultra Sharps and Apple Cinema screens are very, very, good. But, they are also very, very expensive compared to a CRT of the same size, and if your as fussy as I am you can see the difference, especially when viewing from a slight angle. The colours change, as do the tonal graduations in the blacks.

The problem is no one makes high end CRT's anymore, so getting them new is a challenge, and the used prices seem to be climbing, especially for the 19 and 21inch models.
