Well, that was a lot of money back then, I remember begging Mom for a toy and she thought I lost my mind, it cost 9.95! LOL

No doubt. $20 was more like $200, gas was only about 13 cents a gallon, mortgages $50 a month, etc.

$50 a month, wow! I was watching an old "wait till your daddy gets home" episode in which they were out buying a house. The realtor showed them a house waay out of they price range. The dad almost had a heart attack, the house was $80,000. LOL think about what a $80,000 house would look like now, 30 years later. LOL

Having read the first couple of pages, I'm unclear what you mean. As far as I'm concerned, I believe all of the forums here are heavily moderated and there is a complaint procedure in place to use if you spot anything you think doesn't belong here.

I have old Andy Griffith Show DVDs and they talk about a house for $24,000 and a guy getting evicted because he can't afford to make his $52.50 mortgage payment....and paying off the house would cost him $800 which he doesn't have.

Yes, but a complaint procedure is quite similar to a dosimeter when you are in a nuclear power plant. When the dosimeter shows a high reading, it is already too late.

LOL...I wish the balance of my mortgage was $800. I would be free and clear! The funny thing is that the very house that sold for $24,000 in the 70's are now selling for $200,000 (Bay Area prices) even now during the market slump!

Agreed. I think there are many of us, who are responsible, professional adults, it is a couple of bad seeds that are spoiling the board. I think it is also on us to take care of our community. It is nice to have "cops" around, but we can do our part as well.;)

Thanks, I mod a board as well. One thing I notice is that when I took on the job, members would change their attitudes when I post in a thread. It was like how people act when cops are around. I was thinking, guys, it is still me, just because I can delete, edit or whatever your post to maintain the overall content of the board, doesn't mean I am any different. Even as a member I would correct something that seems to be going the wrong way. I think many of us, get emotional and heated, but if one of us were to nicely nudge the member to put the breaks on first and think, many of the offending post will cease. Reactionary posting is awful. I will admit, I've done this many times here and other boards and end up deleting my post as soon as I can back off and think about what I am doing. ;)

Community is the thing here..like you said. I think of POTN as a place, not just a forum. It's all the people here and how they behave.. POTN has a reputation for being nice, fun, cheeky perhaps, lightly moderated and a good 'place to be'. I think it's incumbent on us all to try and keep it that way... if we value it.

btw, has everyone seen Mo's cracking thread on similar topic in the WF?
