Ya'll is a nitpicker.;)

I'd suggest "y'all are" or "you are"**

Y'all always refers to the plural you. To refer to an individual as "y'all" is only appropriate if said individual has been accurately diagnosed with multiple personality disorder. (of course, an online forum may be an exception)

Looking at the proof notation linked we can see that y'all is, indeed, correct while ya'all is a regional adaptation accepted among certain dialects:

"“How y’all doin’?” If you are rendering this common Southernism in print, be careful where you place the apostrophe, which stands for the second and third letters in “you.” Note that “y’all” stands for “you all” and is properly a plural form, though many southern speakers treat it as a singular form and resort to “all y’all” for the plural."
Thus, (nitpickily hehe) I must point out that, y'all will suffice for plural you all, regardless of how many or how far. ;)
** Other alternatives might be you's -- (you is-- "You's a nitpicker) or youse (if of the yankee persuasion- although, I believe this may most legitimately refer to the plural you. Yankee grammar is challenging )

;);););)

I'm totally offended by YA'LL trying to correct my Southern Grammer...This is how my momma and my third grade teacher taught me to spell it.. Changing now would be straight blasphemous to my roots.

HOW RUDE!

;) :)

My apologies-- not correcting, just explaining difference in southern dialect. My mama and my 5th grade teacher would have made me cut my own switch and whipped my butt if i used y'all like that. Gotta remember, my mama was an old southern woman- born in 1901-- she didn't cotton to "triflin'" with language (her word, not mind);):D

and now I have to hush

The lady is correct...listen up :D

ya'll

The correct spelling for the commonly misspelled word, y'all. The word originates in the south-eastern United States and is a contraction formed from the words 'ya' and 'all,' the 'ya' being the short-form of you. The apostrophe is placed after the a because in contractions, letters are removed from the second word, and thus, y'all is gramatically incorrect, leaving ya'll as the proper method of spelling the word.

Examples:

Will ya'll quiet down for a moment please?

I'll see ya'll later.
