just to clarify - these are not my photos, and I do not know the photographer. A photo friend sent me this link, and I found it fascinating.

I'm guessing/hoping a few of you will like it as much as I did, and even though they aren't my pictures, I would love to hear some feedback / criticism on them.

http://multimedia.cyberpresse.ca/brooklyn/index.html (external link)

translated comments that they wrote in french for each picture:

-This Pitbull is trained to fight

-A baby is being washed in the kitchen sink in bushwick

-This mother is about to smoke crack

-Tony is blind since he got beaten with a metal bar. "In the streets, they steal his social security check every month, he is forced to eat what he finds in the garbage", says Boogie

-Martie and Ray are addicted to crack and heroin. They say they never do it in front of their kids.

-Ray lost his eye in a street fight

-Martie answers to his kids who are asking for help for their homework

-Perla needs alot of time to find a vein to to stick the needle in

-A crack pipe and a dose worth 10$

-The floor at Perla's house is stained with dried blood

-Ray after he smoked

-A Hyperactive kid under medication

--Boogie talking--

-The 1st of a serie of gun totting pictures. "That night, i wasnt able to sleep", says Boogie. The kid on the left is now in jail for murder.

-"Blood up" says the tag. At Bushwick and Bedstuy, Boogie mostly met Bloods but only a few crips.

-The Tek-9 is popular with young gang members

-Tools of the trade. A revolver and 10$ crack bags

-A Glock that goes for 400$ in the projects. "But you dont buy guns here, you take em from someone else" says a young men to Boogie.

-The hanging rat is a death threat coming from the Latin Kings to a man suspected to have snitched to the police.

-We do funereals at a florist in Bushwick

-A 16 years old girl

--Boogie talking--

-This girl got caught in the middle of a gun fight and it cut her face. Her boyfriend is still looking for the shooter.

I work with junkies and yet these photos show me a side that I do not see. I have to keep my distance and the photog did not. Of all the images that where some one hitting up in a Public Toilet is simultaneously checking the door. The fear trip. Impressive piece of work soundtrack and dialogue merge into the work where they snake back to slowly recoil about your head.

I am going back to look again, see what else is there. It is seldom for me that my work and my hobby coincide.

I am a social worker, with drug abusers. Our city is very tame in comparison to Brooklyn and that suits me fine. Hey our country is pretty tame compared to Brooklyn, probably they would say the same almost anyware if these pictures are anything to go by.

This series is amazing. I tend to forget how good I have it. Not saying that I'm living in a mansion and driving Porches, but I definately live in a good area compared to Brooklyn. Oh, wait my county was rated the fourth best county to live in in the nation!!!;) Thank God!

I need a catchy sig? Ehhh, I've got nothing...
