My wife promised to find me a mistress if I give up photography.
She believes that with careful choice and a little bit of luck, she could make significant savings in our family budget.. ;)

I believe you can do that on your own (find a mistress) and KEEP your hobby! ;)

It is all in the presentation I guess. She made it sound like it is a great offer ;) when all she did was give you ideas.

That sounds intriguing but watch out. I can see this scenerio:

You sell of your camera equipment. The wife finds you a Mistress. The wife and Mistress runs off together: you're left with no camera no wife and no Mistress and probably all the bills.

Damn I can really relate with the bulk of you or at least resemble the remarks...
In the span of 12 mos I bought a XT, XTI and now the 40D, 9K later I realize I should have spent half on classes.
The only complaint I have with the 40 is it outruns my F4L 70-200 when I use AF....
Damn if I don't look good with it though and I still have a 25% keeper rate:)
Used it today at both my grandsons soccer games, overcast and spotty but I still love the camera and though I took better images with the 400 D I am confident I can make this work better..
A lot of boring images but they are my grandbuddies if you want to look..http://picasaweb.google.com …908AydanAndBenSoccerGames (external link)

I like the photos I htink one thing I see others critique about is keeping the subject in the photo.

I see alot of feet chopped off and no ball in play or a partial ball. I'm sure the action is fast and it's hard not knowing what you captured until you made it home and uploaded the pics. Some would make good crops of facial expressions and so forth. But alot to me lost the theme w/o the ball in play.

Now as for buying equipment. Everything in my signature has been purchased since May plus had and sold a 30D and alot of misc items not listed. This is expensive for sure.

I have one - and am very far from pro status - consider self to be a learning newbie. Have been into this for going on two years now and have yet to take the photo I'd consider blowing up and framing. But it's fun to keep trying.

I've got one and I'm nowhere near pro. It's just a hobby that I've gotten a little obsessed with. :o

That would be a good movie scene: "What are these?! More pictures of your mistress? I thought we agreed you were going to get rid of that camera!"

Sweet new gear for a photogenic new year!

You are sooooo right and I do appreciate the CC but these were family photos and meant to show the youngsters in the spirit of competition and not necessarily for bragging rights.
I post here for the very comments you submit because I have a passion for photography and want to refine same..
I am honored you took time to review and give feedback and will be a better camera holder as a consequence.

Or.. Have your wife take a mistress. You take the pictures. You sell the pictures. You buy more stuff...

I'm contemplating the 400d with an extra lens, or the 40D with the kit lens.

Same here. I purchased one yesterday, arriving Thursday. I will keep my XT as a secondary body.
