First post, but it seems like this is a great community. I have worked with this picture over and over, and think I finally got it how I want it, but I wanted to check how it looks on a monitor that's properly calibrated. Thanks in advance for any critiques or help, and feel free to play with it (though you may have better luck with an unedited version).

My apologies if this is too big - please let me know if there is a preferred method of attaching images.

Welcome to the forums. Interesting image with lots of range. My monitor is newly calibrated (SpyderExpress2) but I'm having a time adjusting to it since it's my first LCD and seems quite bright. Your image shows lots of detail in the darks. Not sure if I'm seeing over-sharpening artifacts just below the blown out circle at the top (I assume you know the circle and the sunlight on the wall at the bottom are blown).

As to the size - a bit large. I think the max for the forum is 800 on the largest side.

I went ahead and linked to a smaller size pic. I will try to remember to do that in the future. Larger is available for those who click.

I definitely know that the two spots are blown out - they were from the start. In real life, there were actually some cross-bars up in the hole in the ceiling, but there was really no way I was going to keep details of anything else and have them show up.

What sort of artifacts do you think you're seeing? I did some sharpening, but nothing is jumping out at me in the area you are describing. I see where it's a little jagged, but that's how it was in the original (the stones were not perfectly smooth - the picture was taken in Beijing's Forbidden City, and they had a hard time smoothing stones completely about 600 years ago ;)). Is there something else I'm missing?

Thanks for checking it out, though. I'm sure I will have many more pictures to ask questions about as time goes on.

Thanks for the laugh. Go figure.

I like the pic. Nothing wrong to me...

What I am seeing is white flecks between the bricks just in the dark area below the hole at the top. Could very well be detail in mortar or some such.

I believe I see what you're talking about. If so, it's the irregular color of the mortar/some mold and whatnot. Some of it would likely be toned down with less aggressive sharpening, so I will have to check that out. Thanks for paying such close attention!

the photo looks great to me. I clicked on the picture to see the larger one, but it seems I just get another small one. Where is the large one?

I guess you have to have a Flickr account to be able to see a larger one. If you are logged in on Flickr you should have a row of options at the top of the picture. One of those says something about "All Sizes." If you click on that option you can see a larger picture.
