Are you taking it to get to work? Are you taking it home? Are you meeting some friends for a relaxing night out on the town? Or are you just along for the ride, watching life pass you by?

~Side Note...that really is dirt/grime on the walls, not a trick of the light. I love NY.

The details of the steps, the details of the rails, the .... most of the details here are lost in shadow. You can't even tell it's an escalator really as the steps are not visible.

You know what would have been a great shot for that title? The "Bloomberg" escalators that used to be in the mall underneath the WTC. Having a wide angle lens to include all of those escalators climbing up from the path station would have made a great shot. The only escalator that I know of that compares is the one at the Exchange Place PATH station in Jersey City. The lighting during the nighttime there makes for a great photo op. But I digress... for this shot I would have maybe taken the shot from the bottom of a longer escalator and made sure I preserved the shadow detail a little. Other than that, it is a great concept.

Weird..this is the first time I've heard that. The rubber hand grips in place of a rail, the ridged metal groves on the steps (which are highlighted) , the angle..they all scream escalator. Am I actually missing something here?

The best escalator in the city for angles is the escalator @ the Lexington Ave station on the F line. That thing leans you WAY back on top of having a pretty low ceiling. Honestly I wasn't giving much thought to the artistic side of the shot when I was taking it, I was snapping pics as I ran up the escalator to catch the E @ W 4th ;)

I like contrasty pics but I think there's a bit too much here, as kenyc said there's precious little detail in the shadow areas. Like the whole top of the escalator is lost in black, it would have worked much better if that was visible. Also some detail in the sides and more in the stairs.....:)

Yeah, maybe a bit of dodging on the steps will do. But this is already nice.
I like the concept. Good job, can be better.
