Whether wired, or with remote triggers and AB strobes I can't shoot faster than 1/160 second. Ditto for my friend's setup.

Anybody getting the published sync speed of 1/200?

Not sure about the 5D but with the 10D and 1D I have trouble getting sync speeds when using the cheap eBay slaves. I can get sync speeds with onboard flash and on-shoe Speedlites though.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Watch me be completely wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure the rated max sync speeds are with speedlites while strobes will be slower. I think for strobes it's 1/125. I never shoot over 1/125 with strobes anyway.

Please post a photo with EXIF data intact. I'm a scientific person by nature and would like to see this firsthand.

Doesn't matter whether I am using my cheap eBay triggers or a sync cable - the best I can get on my 5D without seeing the shutter in the shot is 1/160"

I tend to leave it at 1/125" and everything seems to work fine.

With on shoe flash I can sync at 1/200 but using ebay triggers and elinchrom lights I have to slow down to 1/125.

I just got a 5D and was using studio lights with it. I had previously been using a 20D and using the same light setup at 1/250 shutter speed with no shutter in the shot. I then set the 5D at 1/200 (the rated sync speed) and was now getting the shutter in the shot (just a bit) so I backed it off to 1/160 and that seemed to get rid of the shutter image. Then I tried my 580 EX at 1/200. The shutter was now NOT in the frame. Why is the shutter in the frame with studio lights but not with on camera flash?? I was using Elinchrom lights with an Elinchrom wireless trigger.
