if the 40D & 5D were the same price then conversations here would be VERY very different.

i'd say most general buyers & consumers would chose FF leaving the 1.6x crop as more a niche for long lens only users. for the ultra casual the dRebel would rule as it does now.

Whenever I go out with my 5D it attracts some glances from other photographers nearby, infact just the other day a guy asked me "excuse me is that the 5D your using" well we got chatting & I had a look through his 30D VF as its been a while since ive used that cam, wow what a difference, you certainly notice the difference much more when all ive been used to is the 5D's VF.

Naturally he was utterly smitten with my 5D :p, quite a nice guy actually, but then most people are down here where I live, quite a contrast to living near London.

While the 40D is a good upgrade from a 30D, its still a prosumer camera, while the 5D is a professional body, although who really cares about that, its just words!

Being a "professional body" you'd thought they'd included weather proofing the body.

Doesnt matter to me, landscapes dont tend to look very stunning in the rain anyway, if I wanted that I would have purchased a 1 series ;)

Yeah but thats why some reviews don't rate it a Pro body on the level of the 1D series with the lack of it. I suppose you can have different grades of Pro Level though. Its not just for water sealing but also dust which is very common in landscape stuff. At least in my experiences with the 30D.

Well ive not seen any reports of 5D's with dust or moisture problems, its something I wouldnt pay extra for, or indeed influence my decision at all, unless of course I shot a lot of landscapes in desert like conditions.

In the more harsher conditions where weather proofing is vital, I certainly wouldnt use either a 40D or a 5D, it would have to be a 1 series for sure, generally landscapes are not very harsh on equipment, especially in this country, same goes for weddings.

Wish you guys would stop praising the 5D - mine has been back at Canon since the end of July, getting a new sensor cover fitted, and I'm really starting to miss it . . . . my 350D just feels like a toy compared to it . . .

Yeah I guess what I was getting at is IQ aside, the 5D is still a better camera for handling reasons.

40D Vs. 5D isn't really much of a debate... Apple Vs. Oranges. With the 5D smoking the 40D by the way :)
