Two from recently - the Bee is a native Bee to Australia (Sugarbag), not the best shot, but was a quick attempt at a BIF shot, so reasonably happy at how it turned out. Was made the more difficult by the bee insisting on flying into both heavily shaded areas, and brightly light areas, making it hard to nail exposure correctly. This was underexposed by about a stop as a result, I tried to 'rescue' the image as best as possible.

The fly shot I'm happy with, although it looks soft on my dad's monitor (looks fine on my own computer's LCD monitor though).

Dave - you are right- #1 looks like it would have been a great shot with a bit more exposure on the bee- nice fly though :)

#2 is a super shot. Good BIF shot shame a little dark. Well done though Dave.

Awesome fly shot
Did you take a swipe at him before hand?
He seems to have a dented eye
Not that he would not have deserved it. Annoying damn things and it's not summer yet

Like em both Dave, I've seen a lot of Sugarbag bees in my garden over the last few weeks. I tried to get a BIF but they didn't want to co-operate - see it's all the bees fault not mine.

Thanks guys - it is a shame about the BIF shot, but that's life. They're more predictable than normal honey bees at least, and a bit slower. I'm sure if I spent a good few hours at it, I could nail some decent shots. I'm going to try AF with these babies on the 1D body to see what happens.

#2 is a crop.

I also got some mating fly shots, but forgot to post them, will do so when I get a chance.

Desertraptor - I didn't take a swat at him, wasn't bothering me ;) I've noticed a few flies up here with dents in their eyes, I wonder why.
