My question is does anyone know how much it'll be to replace a shutter in a drebel xt 6.3mp, I bought it used a year ago, loved it but now am thinking i should just bite the bullet and get the 40d but want to be able to sell my rebel to someone who will use it...*(a few people have already asked me when I was selling it.) Is it worth to fix?

Replacing the shutter seems to be somewhere around $300. If its the 6.3mp Rebel then its definitely time to upgrade. If it's the XT 8mp. the decisions is a little tougher.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

the original rebel is worth about $300-$350 used in good condition, its probably not worth the cost of the fix. i would just sell it as is for cheap, cut my losses and get a 40D.

You may want to try selling without fixing. If you get more than $100 for it, it is probably worth it. For this I'd recommend ebay, I think do it yourself repairers scour ebay for broken bodies.

You said it's the 6.3mp rebel, but your signature says rebel XT. Which is it?

I think the shutter assy's are less for the lower end bodies. I had on done for $180 and **D (can't remember which one, either a 10d or 20d).

Best, D.

BTW, I hear that its not too difficult to do the replacement yourself.

In the persuit of total contentment, Canon does not help :)

Its the canon rebel xt 6.3mp, I did end up telling them to fix it and will use it for my back up, as for the "signature" at the bottom, Ive tried to fix it and it won't let me redo it...so I have a rebel xt 6.3mp, 430 flash 55-200mm lens, 18-55 kit lens, thrifty 50 and some flash cards. Will be looking into the 40d probably next week.

No such thing. There's the Canon Digital Rebel (6.3mp), and the Canon Digital Rebel XT (8mp).
