40 D battery compartment

I just got my 40D today and love it. The 3" LCD is worth gold.

One concern I do have and most will probably think I am too picky, but wondering why Canon would make the hinges on the battery door plastic. My 20D has metal bracket there and metal release. Concerned that if I remove grip and have to put door on and off a few times this is going to wear out.

I know it does not effect the way the camera works but concerns me that they did this to save a few cents.

Hope they did not cut any other corners.

This was the one thing that really surprised me on the 40D.. even the Xti has a nice metal hinge that can be depressed for easy removal. This certainly seems like a step backward. Sure can't complain about anything else though

I've already managed to lose a battery. Hopefully, it's here somewhere - must clean house today.

My fault, not Canon's.

Perhaps its got something to do with the new psuedo-weathersealing?

Hinges splinges... but the rest of the body is great no?
