...you're not going to have any US warranty with that camera, if that makes a difference to you.

I think not. I'll take the risk. But thanks for the heads up on this issue.

:)

They are all same cameras as mentioned above.
The entry level dslr seires from Canon is called Kiss in Japan, Rebel in USA, and xxxD in EU.
Currently the latest versions are Kiss X, Rebel XTi, and Eos 400D.
Only difference will be the badges, warranty, and rechargers (although I heard that they may all work in the differing continents).

As for lenses, the 50mm f1.4 will work fine on the Kiss X, but you may find that it's not wide enough. A Canon 28-105 also may not feel wide enough for a walking around zoom b/c of the crop factor. To compensate for the crop factor, zooms in the 18-50ish range have been made for these cropped sensor bodies to mimic the traditional field of view offered by a 28-80mm ish range zooms on 35mm film cameras.

Canon makes the 18-55 kit lens, 17-55 f2.8 IS lenses for such use. Various other third parties make their own version for the Canon mount to consider include the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8, Sigma 18-50f2.8 macro, Sigma 17-70mm, and Tokina 16-50.
Good luck

More to learn. So there's a "Canon mount" that will safely allow for these "third part[y]" lenses?

Will look for both the mount and the lenses you have suggested.

Thank you.

:)

The third party lenses mentioned above come WITH the canon mount (or alternatively Nikon, Minolta, Pentax) it's not a seperate item.
