QUOTED IMAGE

beautiful. Sue (TSEE) and I have been talking about this spot quite a bit. I am planning on getting there sometime to take some shots (in between runs at Snowshoe of course).

only real cc is that it's a bit underexposed. perfect application for a grad ND filter. I'd love to see the detail in the shadows. fyi, I prefer darker exposures so for me to say it's dark, it's pretty dark.

Thank you shanny - you can always visit :D

namasste - on my home computer I can see the details, but here at work it does look a bit dark. I still have a bunch of shots to PP, and I think there is a brighter one in there. I'll be back in the New River Gorge area the first weekend of October. I hope it isn't too late because the drought is causing the leaves to change early this year :(

yeah, this leaf situation is a drag. funny you mention the different views on your other machine. this laptop tends to make things seem darker too. I should have factored that in.

That's a beautiful shot. I like how the mill looks like it has barrel distortion. Was that caused from a wide angle lens, or is that how it really looks?

Thank you :) and yes - It was shot with a 1Ds and 24-105mm f4L IS on the wide side. Next time I go back, I hope to have a tilt/shift in my bag, but I do like the effect of the regular wide too

Nice job. I have that mill on my wall. I bought it a while ago at an arts show. Maybe one day I will get out there and get my own shot on the wall.

Excellent shot from an interesting angle. Here is one I took last summer on a drizzly day.

Nice photo! A little dark for me but that's my preference.

My husband and I will be there the 3rd week of October. Hoping the foliage will be at it's peak color.

What is the best time of day to shoot this mill? Morning or evening better?

Thanks for the compliments everyone

dmwphoto - the drought has pretty much killed the waterfall opposite the visitor center, so be glad you have that shot!

sharod - the photo doesn't look dark on my home computer (which is calibrated), but dark on all my others. I have to agree that is a tad dark on any other computer I view it on. Anyway, I can't see what time of day is best. I took that picture just before noon. the sun does not rise or set behind the mill, so I'm not sure either morning or evening will be better.

I like it, but agree it's a too dark in the shadows.

I'd suggest re-checking your calibration. :)
