Need help assigning buttons on my 40D

Hi all,
I need some help please as I am stuck as to how to set the buttons on my new 40D to the way I used to have them on my D60.

Someone set the D60 for me years ago, and I never once changed them, and now I am baffled as to how to set up the 40D in the same way.

This is the way I have my D60 buttons set.

Looking through the viewfinder I push the * button which sets the focus point and I then take the photo.(How do I set this with the 40D?)

The next thing I cant sort out is:-
On the D60 to set the over or under exposure, I push the shutter down halfway and use the main wheel at the back, and turn either clockwise for over exposure, or counter clockwise for under exposure.(How do I set this on the 40D?).
I hope that my questions can be understood!

dont mean to be cocky or anything but have you tried reading the manual? im sure that it would help you with your second problem, as its a basic function. not sure about the first though, as i dont understand what you mean fully. so i cant suggest anything.

I had the same setup on the 10D. You now have to use the AF-On button at the back of the camera.
change C. FnIV to option 2 Metering Start/Meter+AF start this will give you what you need

Your second question seems to be regarding exposure compensation(EC). While in Av, or Tv mode you adjust EC with the quick control dial on the back. It's the bigges thumb wheel. Hope that helps.

In order to do this, make sure the power switch is pushed all the way to the top. The middle, on setting will not allow this functionality.

well let us know if you have any other problems. Those options are the ones you can use to change the way you AF and which buttons you can use. I would recommend that you select each one and see what the camera does.

this is the best way of know what each option does. But yes the manual isn't that useful.
