Wind finally died down so I could attempt some insect photos with my new lens. Fairly pleased with them. Both are slight crops. Any C&C appreciated.

I have a Sigma 105mm macro,,, thinking about selling that to by the Canon,, alot of people really seem to love this lens,,, I think I'll like the focusing much better than that on the Sigma

Thanks, guys. I don't really know what it is, but he was not shy. The only trouble was he kept coming towards me, instead of running away. I was in the Cherokee Nat. Forest on the Ocoee River. Found out the 100 2.8 is pretty good at sports, also.

Thanks, Brian. I've tried to use the techniques you mentioned on the other sites and have found them to work very well. I did no PP on this pic other than cropping and slight sharpening, so those are the actual colors of the fly. Pretty unique for my first insect pics.:D

Great shot of a flesh fly.
@JAHarris, since you already have the Sigma, try before you buy the Canon macro as it'll only be the handling that will sway you, or possibly the Sigma's external focussing. Image quality will not be significantly better because although contrast can be a little subdued, the Sigma 105 is very, very sharp, as you've probably already found out.

Thanks eccles,,, I'm having second thoughts about buying the Canon,, like you said,, image quality I dont think could be much different,, it just seems like the Sigma is very slow focusing, even though I mainly use manual focusing when in low light,,I dont know,, I have several other Canon lens', and I'm quite fond of the Canon lens' so I thought I might like the Canon 100mm better than the Sigma,, and since macro is my main thing right now,,:D it is an expensive lens though,,,
