I use a Rocket Blower for occasional dust, and it works pretty well. For stubborn spots, I use a SensorBrush. Works very well. I've never had to use a wet method.

The poster had been in contact with us yesterday morning about this after he sent his camera to Canon and I usually cruise the forums and saw this thread. I fail to see your point about how I somehow "knew" the OP would be posting here. He did not seem vindictive in his correspondence, just very upset. What am I supposed to do? Not give the other side to his opening post?

I don't expect to get into an accident either, but I have had 3 deer jump in front of my car over the last few years - 3 smashed in frontends. Anyone who says you can be prepared for everything is just plain silly. STUFF happens, you do the absolute best you can to be prepared for everything, but sometimes stuff happens.

We have a comprehensive website detailing ad nauseum every nuance of sensor swabbing and to suggest otherwise shows you have never visited our site.

I read the OP and I don't think he did any bashing of the product. He really didn't speculate how he did it. Mentioned he used this product, said he read the instructions, although if he did, he would have read the online tut too. Not sure how you miss that big yellow warning.

So I don't think he attacked the method or product, but he does point out, with his experience, whatever you do, be careful.

Just to add some perspective and my experience... I did a wet clean on my sensor for the first time last week (used sensor swaps & eclipse, not from Copperhill, sorry Nicholas but the process and stuff is very similar). I was scared to death but I followed instructions to the "T" and within 30 seconds, it was all over, dust was gone and I was happy. I also spend lots of time working on my bikes (often taking apart complicated hydraulic forks) and have learned the hard way too many times to count. Point is, when I have screwed up my bike, it's almost always as a result of not knowing what to do or not following directions (basically, full on user error). With the ease of the process and countless experiences folks have had using Copperhill or other (similar) products for the task of sensor cleaning, it's very hard to imagine that this is a product problem.

OP, I truly feel for you. I know what it's like (that, I want to puke because of what I just did and can't undo feeling). I hope it works out okay for you and you get your "baby" back in working condition. For anyone else concerned about trying this, just make sure you are 100% (not 97.7%) positive that you understand what you are doing BEFORE attempting a clean. If you doubt at all, RE-READ the directions of both the camera mfg. and cleaning product mfg. If you aren't a detail oriented type soul, find someone who can help or send it on in. Just realize whether this is the kind of thing you'd be okay doing or not based on your experience with other things (for me, bikes, for you, who knows, replacing a light switch or something). Good luck if you forge forward. Despite having only done it once (successfully though so take it for what it's worth) I will gladly give anyone thinking of doing a cleaning as much help as you need/want. Just PM or email me.

I bought Nicholas' solution from the Australian copperhill dealer (Quality camera Australia).
I'm really satisfied with this, its a perfect solution. previously I tried Delkin's Sensor wands but they are horrible and leaves the fabric on the sensor. I guess it could be a user error i.e the OP forgot to put PecPad and directly touched the AA filter with the naked swipe.

hey guys thanks for all the responses...yea i actually posted to find out how much it was going to cost me to repair the damage and not to bash copper hill....Im sure their product works fine in the very high 90% of the times.....I just so happened to be in that very few % that managed to mess my sensor up. Copper hill was very great at responding in a very timely maner on how i should go about getting my problem resolved, but I couldnt wait to get it verified by their reputable servicer; so i just sent it in to canon and pretty much have to deal with it now.
Im not trying to scare anyone away from cleaning their own sensors....so sorry if i managed to do that. I know i would rather pay canon every single time my sensor gets dirty from now on though. I, personally, cant live with the stress of having to clean my sensor again.
Nicholas, thanks for all your help, it is appreciated.

To all the members on the forum, please dont bash Nicholas and Copper Hill. I didnt post with the intentions of doing this. All i wanted was a price estimate since canon couldnt give me one until they checked the damage. Someone above had noted that I didnt bash copper hill, so thank you for taking note of that.

Is your 5D an early copy?

My understanding is that the coating on the sensor's filter (the surface we clean dust off of) was defective in the early 5D's and that Eclipse fluid could actually strip the coating off the filter.

I thought I scratched my filter once. Turns out it was just a stubbron streak of goop or something. After a couple tries it came clean.

I am certainly hoping this was the case for the OP.

As for copperhill coming here and posting up - That's top notch service in my books. He protects his customers and his products from misinformation and helps when he can. Can't ask for more than that can you?

Well hopefully it is a streak. I cleaned it two more times thinking it was that and nothing.....but I PRAY it is that.

And yes, copperhill does have good service. Like i said, they replied to my email rather quickly. And again, everyone, please do not think wrong of their product. WHO KNOWS WHAT COULDVE CAUSED THE SCRATCH. COULDVE BEEN AN ACT OF GOD:D. lol infact my mother said it was, she said "god punished you for not going to church"!!!!! lol, mother knows best.;)

My sensor has alot of dust but it isn't very visible until after f10

But I rarely go above f8 so I let it be. I was actually going to my local camera shop (empire camera) and was going to buy a little Pec-pad + eclipses kit they have.. now im having second thoughts.
