I have no idea, but it just might be that they are all conterfeit products that have been seized. Cartier did a similar thing years ago, but they did it as a big public stunt. They lined up all the conterfeit watches etc along a Paris street and drove a steamroller over them. I remember seeing a photograph that was taken at the time.

Used Google Language Tools to translate the first paragraph and it came up with this:

Canon originally did not know how to deal with those flaws or quality of the camera. Only now understand that it was completely been sentenced to death, Spot! In fact, apart from quality problems, many cameras are in the transport, storage and sale of accidents in the process of being registered access (including trauma, rain, blisters, etc.). That many of them are famous Canon products in the industry. The scene is indeed deplorable and shocking! In short, to the credibility, Canon costs of these products will be destroyed. Looks great loss, but said most insurance companies will be paid

Wish I could speak the language :)

aha! So what would have been wrong with them that the insurance wrote them off?

I work for a camera manufacturer and we do it all of th time. In most cases it is a camera coming to end of life or cameras that may be too costly to justify the repair.

Canon Accused of Using Reclaimed Parts in "New" Photographic Equipment"

POTNews has obtained internal documents and images indicating that numerous high end Canon camera bodies and lenses, along with various other photographic and videographic items may contain components previously deemed to be of inferior quality by in-house inspectors.

Canon officials were unavailable for comment.

Maybe this is why?

Reference for the above please - such a quote is less than useless unless you can let us read the story in it's entirety.
If you can't reference the above then don't bother posting such things in the first place; that's trolling.

Ya know, the way the glass broke it almost looks as if it’s tempered glass.

:lol::lol:. It's not a real story. It's meant to illustrate what could happen if Canon had gone the other way and tried to salvage the gear instead of destroying it. Many of us who decry the waste of this measure would be ready to pillory Canon in this instance. "POTNews" - get it?

It's a shipment. You can see the pallets and the stock. It appears that a container most likely fell over or there was a truck accident etc.

Everything has to be claimed/destroyed and written off for insurance.

I'm sure the workers "lost" a couple of 1 series and big glass in the process though.
